Coordinate new air conditioning with an electrical supply assessment. Share model specifications, existing loads and access before installation starts.
Choosing an air conditioner and confirming its electrical supply are connected decisions. An available wall position or an unused socket does not establish that the proposed system can be installed there. Give the air-conditioning installer and electrician the same equipment information early, so neither trade has to work around assumptions made by the other.
Provide the actual equipment specification
Share the proposed indoor and outdoor model numbers and installation instructions, not only the advertised cooling capacity. Cooling output and electrical demand are different figures. If the selection is still provisional, say so and request confirmation before purchase. Different combinations of equipment can have different supply requirements, so a previous quote for another model should not automatically be carried over to the final choice.
Describe the existing household use
List major appliances and planned additions such as an EV charger, cooking equipment or another air-conditioning system. Explain any history of power interruptions or protective devices operating during normal use. Do not recreate the event by switching loads on together. The electrician needs to assess the installation and available capacity; the number of empty-looking positions on a switchboard is not an assessment you can make from outside.
Agree placement and routes together
Mark the proposed outdoor unit, indoor equipment and accessible service paths on a plan. The air-conditioning team will consider drainage, airflow and refrigerant pipework, while the electrician assesses the electrical route and protection. Ask who coordinates wall penetrations and making good. Mention concrete walls, limited access, known suspect materials and any planned landscaping before the installation date rather than after surfaces are finished.
Clarify permissions and disruption
In an apartment or strata property, equipment locations and alterations to common property may require approval. Confirm the scope with the building manager before booking access equipment. Ask about the expected power interruption and any implications for essential household equipment. Do not relocate outlets, modify fixed wiring or enter the roof space to prepare a cable route. Clearing a safe work area is useful; doing electrical preparation yourself is not.
Request a complete handover
The quote should identify electrical work, any separate supply investigation and the process for approving unexpected changes. At completion, ask which documentation applies, who demonstrates isolation and normal controls, and whom to call for an electrical versus equipment fault. Keep the final model details with both trades’ paperwork. A coordinated supply brief avoids treating a cooling purchase as proof that the home is electrically ready.
