Keep your gas ducted heating system running safely and efficiently this winter with these essential tips.

Gas ducted heating keeps Sydney homes warm through winter, but it needs regular attention to run safely and efficiently.

Gas Safety Checks

NSW Health advises having a registered gas fitter check a gas heater at least every two years. Follow the manufacturer's instructions if they specify a shorter service interval. Do not attempt gas repairs yourself.

Clean or Replace Filters

Dirty filters restrict airflow and force your system to work harder, increasing gas usage and wear on the unit.

Check Vents Aren't Blocked

Furniture or rugs covering floor or ceiling vents force the system to overwork one part of the house while leaving others cold.

Carbon Monoxide Warning

Carbon monoxide has no smell or colour, so do not rely on odours or flame appearance to rule it out. If anyone develops headache, nausea or weakness, get everyone into fresh air and call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. For dizziness, fainting or unconsciousness, call 000. See NSW Health guidance below.
